Recently in past few days their is an outburst of Nipah virus in state of Kerala (India)

It's a zoonatic disease , spread through animals and effect both animals and Human beings .

Highly contagious disease .

According to Source , The first attack of this virus is in Malyasia Country  year 1998 , in small town Kampung sungai Nipah , so the name ( NIPAH VIRUS ) .

Their natural reservoir is Pig , almost Pig farmer suffer during outbreak .

Others Reservoir are Fruit bats which feeds on fruits.

Secondary Resorvoir : Person infected with the virus .

Last known outbreak is in Bangladesh in year 2004 .

Incubation Period : 5- 14 days

Mode Of Transmission :

● Secretion of infected one  : saliva , semen , urine , excreta

● Infected Person to healthy person .

● Highly contagious amongs pigs

● Eating contaminated fruits and foods .

High Risk People

Pig farmer who handle pigs

Farmer who came in contact with infected bats

Consuming  fruits which are already bitten by bats

Contact with people who are already infected .


SIGN AND SYMPTOMS

★ Fever .

★ Headache .

★ Bodyache .

★ Drowsiness .

★ Neck Rigidity .

★ Disorientation and Mental confusion .

★ Coma .

★ Breathing troubles in some case .

Diagnosis

◎ Serological study , ELISA TEST which is done at National Institute of Virology Pune.

TREATMENT .

There is No standard scientific therapy of this virus .

INTENSE CARE OF THE INFECTED PERSON .

PREVENTION .

# Personal hygiene should be maintain

# Hand wash before handling foods

# Avoid contact with pigs and pig farmers

# Avoid fruits eaten by animals .

# Avoid Eating fallen fruits without proper wash

# Wear mask in highly populated areas .
