Skin is largest organ of the body and form interface between man and environment .

★Epidermis
★Dermis

Epidermis
It is outer epithelial  layer consist of 2 types of cells .

WHAT IS BURN ? 

BURN are injury which is caused to body tissue due to exposure to fire , chemicals , electricity , radiation .

Severity of Burns are depends on the intensity of the Source and length of time in contact with the source .

Burns can cause Minor medical problems or if severe they can also be life threatening.

TREATMENT depends on severity of Burn .

WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF BURN . 

ORDINARY BURN : Which is encounter daily in households . They are due to exposure to DRY HEAT or With FIRE , Contact with hot metal , accidents Etc .

SCALDS : In this type exposure to moist heat , hot liquid or steam result in scald .

ELECTRIC BURN :  It is due to exposure to High Voltage electric Current , There are 2 site of injury , enterence from where the electric current enters and the other point where it removes .

CHEMICAL BURN : It is due to contact of strong Acids or Base and result into injury on the skin surface .

RADIATION BURN : It happens due to long exposure of X ray radiations ,

COLD BURN : Exposure to extreme low temperature which causes injuries to tips of fingers , nose , ears .

DEGREE OF BURN 

1st DEGREE BURN : In this only superficial skin surface is involved . There is only redness of skin (epidermis ) , oedema present . Heal itself within 2-3 days . There is no Scarring .

2nd DEGREE BURN : In this degree , outer thickness of epidermis is destroyed , formation of belbs or vesicles seen .

3rd DEGREE BURN : In this degree , there is complete destruction of epidermis and dermis with irreversible changes , so here skin grafting be only choice .

To estimate the % of burn we must to know the  "RULE OF NINE ".

Do not get panic yourself first .

Get to open space with proper ventilation .

Remove clothing from the burner area .

Hold burn area under Cool running water , not cold water , do not apply ice as it can damage more .

Remove rings or ornaments before swelling take place .

Do not apply Colgate's mainly its a Mentality to apply Colgate's paste , avoid that .

Do not put any ointment , butter or any medicated creams on burn

Wraps the affected area with sterile guaze bandage , don't tight it to much .

Do not break the blister , it protects the injury from Infection , so avoid or protect it.

COMPLICATION OF BURNS . 

Most common complication is Infections at site and which leads to sepsis .

Hypovolemia Shock due to fluid loss .

Low body temperature .

Breathing related problem due to intake of fumes or hot air .

ROLE OF HOMEOPATHY IN BURN AND SCLAD .

HOMEOPATHY helps in cases of burn and Scalds . First aid Treatment should be started as a watery dose of Cantharis 30 which helps in reducing pain and enhance healing or burn .

In cases of 1st degree burn , cantharis 30 with external applications of Urtica urens will help to recover .

Dressing can also be done with help of Mother Tincture , cantharis and calundula mother Tinctures are used for dressing .

Hygiene should be maintained to avoid Infection and sepsis .

Individual cases requires constitutional remedy to heal up fast . Depends on individual symptoms and nature of the burn .

HOMEOPATHIC REMEDY  FOR BURN 

CANTHARIS

Use in cases of superficial burns where burning and pain is at extreme level , cantharis will reduce burning and helps in healing .
Useful in cases of sunburn .
Pain relieved by application of cool water .
The inflammation condition has tendency to go into Gangrenous state as there is lack of blood supply , here cantharis acts well .
Blister formation is also present.


ACONITUM NAPELLUS


Works wonder in state of fear , anxiety , anguish of mind and body . Fright after attack of burn . Used in cases of 1st degree burn . Violent and severe pain in the affected parts .
Burning pain with sudden swelling .
There is marked fear after attack .
Patient is physical and mental restless .

CAUSTICUM

Used in cases of burns when the healing state is stopped or difficult to heal . Causticum will help to speed up the healing process . Used in cases of old burns which are difficult to heal .

CALENDULA

Used as a mother Tincture in dressing purpose of burn . Has a power of antiseptic which prevent sepsis .
Prevents suppuration in the affected area of burn .

Dressing should be done using Mother Tincture of Calendula and Cantharis .


URTICA URENS

Useful in cases of burns and Scalds . Burn which is confined to skin .
Erythema , burning and stinging pain .
Externally Mother Tincture should be applied in cases of 1st degree burn or superficial burn .


Some Remedy to keep in mind , when burn associated with pus formation , Calc Sulp , pyrogenium , calcarea carb etc should be thought of.

When burns are associated with formation of GANGRENE to affected part , Arsenic Alb , Secale Cor , Flourish acid etc should be thought of .
