WHAT IS RINGWORM ?

RINGWORM also known as Dermatophytosis or Tinea , is a fungal infection of the skin .

Can be seen in both Humans and Animals .

HOW RINGWORM OCCURS ?

There are 3 types of fungi which are Microsporum , Epidermophyton , Trichophyton .

They got easily penetrate through the keratinized structure of the skin and infection starts to spread on Skin .

Microsporum type can affects SKIN and HAIR

Epidermophyton type can affects SKIN and NAILS

Trichophyton type can affects SKIN, NAILS and HAIR

SOURCE OF INFECTIONS

Infection can spread from Animals to Humans .

Spread from Human to human

Spread from Soil to humans .

TINEA COPORIS

Also known as Body Ringworm .

In these type there is formation of typical small red ring like lesion on the body surface .

Slowly they grow in size , the centre part is healed and the periphery part is spreading ,sometimes vesicles are formed on the periphery of the lesion . Itching is marked on lesions.

Soon they unite and form large lesion and they are painful sometimes .

Location : Groins regions , Trunk region , both extremities .

TINEA CAPITIS

Also known as Ringworm on Scalp

2 Types of fungi are involved

Microsporum and Trichophyton ,

They invade the hair shaft , circular lesion are formed , hair fall at the site , sometime erythematous . Itching and white scaling can be seen.

They spread from Animals like cats or dogs.

So person who carries these pet animals are more prone to have Tinea Capitis .

TINEA CRURIS

Also known as Dhobi itch or Jock Itch

It is caused by Trichophyton fungi . It is seen in adults .

Spread through clothes and articles .

Groins region are mostly affected and there is foul smelling Perspiration and itching is marked when changing the clothes .

TINEA PEDIS

Also known as Athelete foot

Causative Infection are of type Trichophyton.

Trichophyton rubrum mainly involves .

Sole of feet is affected in many cases , cleft between fingers are also affected .

Itching can be seen .

Organism come in contact from bathrooms or Urinals .

TINEA UNGUIUM

Also known as Oncychomycosis .

In these type nails are affected by fungi .

Great toe are mostly infected but other nails are also affected.

Organism is Trichophyton Rubrum which is responsible .

Nails becoming brittle and are easily breakable .

TREATMENT FOR RINGWORM / TINEA INFECTION .

➡ ANTIFUNGALS CREAMS , ANTIFUNGAL MEDICINE , ANTIFUNGAL SOAPS are used spontaneously . But it is of no use in many cases of ringworm , they only stop growth of the fungi and when the medicines are taken off then it again start to appear on the skin .

➡ Firstly proper hygiene should be maintained .

➡ Regular / Daily cleaning of the affected part .

➡ Try to keep the affected region dry as it decrease the multiplication of the fungi .

➡ Avoid using share clothes and towels .

➡ Clothes should be changed daily and washed daily .

➡ Light cotton clothes should be used , avoid jeans .

Act as a powerful irritant of skin , and useful in case of Ringworm , psoriasis .
Dry scaly eruptuons around eyes and ears

TELLURIUM

RINGWORM of hands and feet
Itching of hands and feets , ring shape lesions ,
