SECOND PRESCRIPTION IN HOMOEOPATHY
The need of second prescription is arises when the first prescription is made.
Based on the outcome of the first prescription and reaction of the patient to the first prescription , second prescription is made.
Second Prescription may be of following types
1) Repitition of first remedy
2) Antidote to first remedy
3) Change of first remedy
4)Comlimentary to first remedy
5)Cognate
1) Repitition of first remedy
1st possibility
If in the treatment of a case when a homoeopathic medicine is given and there is relieve in suffering n improvement seen for months or weeks but after that if there is reappearance of the old symptoms for which patient came for so in that case , the first prescribed medicine should be reapeated .
Interpretation : Medicine selected is right one , case is curable and under control
So same remedy can be repeated in that case
2nd Possibility
In some cases , after the first prescription is made , there is marked improvement in the symptoms, the patient may not complain any physical problems yet he is not considering himself completely improved that means the case have come to standstill position
So in these situation repetition of same remedy is needed .
2) Antidote to first remedy
Appearance of new symptoms after first prescription indicate that remedy is not perfectly homoeopathic to case , remedy has to be antidoted .
If new symptoms are symptoms of remedy prescribed then it has to be understood that patient is proving remedy prescribed .
If new symptoms are not symptoms of remedy prescribed then physician should conclude that he made mistake in selection of first prescription n first antidote should be given.
3) Change of first remedy
If new symptoms develops after first prescription with entire change of original symptoms , Change of remedy has to be thought of .
But after waiting for long time many PHYSICIAN are in confused stage to wait more or change .
Hence both Dr H.A. ROBERT AND DR KENT says , when you are in doubt Wait .
It's a golden rule never change the medicine unless And untill the same remedy is tested with different potencies .
4) Complementary to first remedy.
Complementary remedy is used after first remedy has acted sufficiently and it helps to complete cure.
In some cases , complementary remedy to first prescription is needed because previous remedy has done only half work.
5) Cognates
Those medicines that are closely related to each other are called cognates .
Once first remedy completes its actions , cognate may be called for second prescription but its not compulsory that in every case it needed .
In homoeopathy , based on totality remedy is prescribed , so in some cases cognate is needed.
