WHAT ARE CARCUNCLE ? 

Carbuncle are group of abscess which is formed underneath the skin surface and are caused by mainly Staphylococcal Aureus infection . 

It appears as a red point boils like erruption which will turn out into group of abscess . 

Type of a bacterial infections which affects subcutaneous tissues . 


COMMON SITE AFFECTED 


Can occur at any part of the body surface but mainly seen on particular region I.e 

● At Back Region 

● Nape of Neck 

● Shoulder , Cheeks , Dorsum of Hand 

● Chest And Abdomen also involved . 


RISK FACTOR FOR CARCUNCLE .


● Poor hygiene .

● Diabetic .

● Old age .

● Obesity .

● Long stand diseases which lower Immunity.

● No proper Shaving Technique .



HOW CARBUNCLE FORMED


Mainly cause by organism Staphylococcal Aureus , once organism comes in contact with the subcutaneous tissue , they penetrate into deeper layer of skin and spread internally .

There is series of Connecting abscess , which discharge seperately on skin surface
So surface appears like SEIVE .

Formation of Central large Slough which spread rapidly .



SIGN AND SYMPTOMS OF CARBUNCLE .


Male are more prone then females .

Mostly affected above age of 40 .

High fever , associated with burning Pain in affected part .

Enlargement of Surrounding lymph nodes .

Marked oedema and Enduration .

Started with small PAINFUL swelling , which spread rapidly

The central part become soft and Multiple Vesicles can be seen on skin Surface .

Vesicles turns into Pustules , and pustules burst open and give appearance of SIEVE like Which is Pathognomic of Carbuncle .


CONVENTIONAL TREATMENT .


General Health of Patient should be Maintained .

Course of Antibiotics should be used .

Dressing with Magnesium Sulphate and Glycerine should be done .


COMPLICATION


● Septicemia ( Organism can enter in blood stream )

● Scarring .

● Organism Spread to Internal organs in long term cases .
